A cue is like an extension to your arm for many players. Some people keep their's for years while others replace them every 6 months. How long have you owned your current cue?

New Eltham Club only unbeaten team left in SLKPA

We are eight weeks in to the South London & Kent Pool Alliance summer season and there is only one unbeaten team left in the entire league, New Eltham Club of Tier Three.

This week they had a top of the table clash against second placed, Academicals and it was a hard fought match that befitted the position of the two teams.

Each set was won by the odd frame, 3-2 with the two teams sharing the first two, setting up a tense final set, which the league leaders took for an overall, 2-1 & 8-7 victory to stay unbeaten at the top of the table.

Jeff Bailey was again outstanding, putting in a captain’s performance to win all three of his frames and he was supported by Paul Cobbold and Gary Mason who scored two out of three.

New Eltham Club have extended their lead over Academicals to five points and they have been joined in equal second by Bexleyheath Working Mans Club, as their great form continues.

The first two sets against new boys Red Barn were very close, with Bexleyheath taking them by the odd frame, 3-2 but they turned on the style in the final set, winning it, 4-1 for an overall 3-0 & 10-5 victory.

New Eltham Social Club are only one point behind the teams in second, after a comprehensive victory over bottom team Real Hustlers.

The damage was done in the first two sets, winning them, 4-1 and 5-0 to secure the bonus point before going on to take the final set, 3-2, making the final score, 3-0 & 12-3.

Real Hustlers replaced Lord Kitchener at the bottom after they picked up a point against Happy Hustlers.

The first set went to Happy Hustlers, 4-1 but Lord Kitchener fought back and secured the second set, 3-2 before Happy Hustlers made the win theirs, taking the final set by the same score for a, 2-1 & 9-6 overall triumph.

At the moment it looks like New Eltham Club will be gaining promotion but there is a dogged fight between the three teams behind them, Academicals, Bexleyheath and New Eltham Social Club, to see who will be joining them.

The team that lost their unbeaten record this week was Hotshots but they stay top of the SLKPA Elite League by just one point.

Bringing down Hotshots for the first time this season were Allstars and it was a very tough but great game.

The first set went all the way but Allstars ended up taking it, 3-2.

The first two frames of the second set were shared, then Allstars went one up but Steve Krishnan and Neil Hall brought it back, winning the set, 3-2 and levelling the match at five frames and one set all.

All to play for in the final set but Paul Cook won the fourteenth frame to give Allstars an unassailable, 3-1 lead to win the match and the bonus point, before Danny Kelliher took the final frame to make the final score, 2-1 & 8-7.

Cook won two of his three frames, as did Stacy Redman but Tony Halpin went one better with an unbeaten hat-trick.

This victory puts Allstars two points behind Hotshots and just one point behind Eltham Terrace Club A in second.

Eltham Terrace Club A not only had a local derby with Eltham Terrace Nuthouse to contend with but also some baffling rolls of the balls that defied the laws of physics but that was the same for both teams

The first set belonged to Nuthouse but only just, with them edging it, 3-2, including a break and dish from Shane O’Reilly.

The second set went to the A side, slightly more comprehensively by four frames to one, with Craig Jones scoring Nuthouse’s one with a dish from an in off break in frame ten to prevent the whitewash.

The first three frames of the last set swung one way then the other, with Nuthouse taking a, 2-1 lead but Captain, Ron Brown won his only frame of the night to equalise and Dan Foley took the final frame to give the A side the, 2-1 & 9-6 triumph.

Apart from Brown there were no other unbeaten players but both O’Reilly and Jones won two of their three frames for Nuthouse, as did Dave Rawlinson and Ben McIntosh for the victors.

Pickwick appear to be pulling away from the bottom after they beat Hustlers Simply Lovleh to leapfrog them into fourth.

Pickwick made it hard for themselves despite Simply Lovleh only having four players but they did just enough to take maximum points with a, 3-0 & 9-6 triumph.

Adam Hewson did his best to keep Simply Lovleh in the game by winning all three of his frames but it proved not quite enough.

Sharks are now two points clear at the top of SLKPA Tier Two West, after a, 3-0 & 12-3 triumph over Crayford Social Club Rugrats.

The match was close at the start, with Sharks narrowly taking the first set, 3-2 but they ran away with it in the next two sets, winning them, 4-1 and 5-0.

Steve King fought hard for Rugrats, winning two of his three frames and Mark Knevett was their only other winner.

On the other hand Sharks had four unbeaten players, Kevin Dempsey won his only frame, Vu Son recorded two victories and Eno Idiong and Rahat Munim both scored hat-tricks.

Behind Sharks third played second, as Woolwich Wolfpack took on Rose Inn and it was the away side who extended their superiority in the table to five points, with a, 2-1 & 9-6 victory.

The inspiration behind Rose Inn’s victory was Dean Greaney-Parr and Lewis Hearn, who both scored three out of three.

The other match in the division was a bottom of the table clash between Fox & Hounds and Bellegrove Superstars.

Fox left Superstars winless at the bottom of the table but they didn’t have it all their own way, as Keith Smith opened the scoring for Superstars however, Fox won the next six frames to win the first set, 4-1 and take a, 2-0 lead in the second.

Superstars came back though and won the last three frames of the second set to take it, 3-2, making the overall frame score, 6-4 going into the final set.

Fox took the final set, 3-2 for an overall, 2-1 & 9-6 victory, to extend the lead over their opponents in the table to nine points.

New Eltham stay top of SLKPA Tier Two West despite having to share the points with CSC Mr’s & Miss Q’s.

Despite being nine points and four places behind the league leaders, CSC won the first set, 4-1 but New Eltham took a, 3-1 lead in the second set and looked like they were going to tie the match in both sets and frames when Peter Whyte potted a difficult black in the tenth frame, only for the cue ball to find the middle pocket, giving CSC the frame.

It was 1-1 in sets but CSC were, 6-4 up in frames going into the final set and they took a, 2-1 lead to give them the bonus point but Paul Elford levelled the set and Whyte made up for his earlier set back by winning the final frame to give New Eltham the set by 3 frames to 2.

So points were shared as New Eltham won the match in sets, 2-1 but CSC secured the bonus point by winning more frames, 8-7.

Elford won two of his three frames but Dec Kelly went one better with an unbeaten hat-trick.

CSC have risen from fifth to third but the main reason for this was due to, a rare occasion in the SLKPA, an unfinished match, between North Heath Social Club and Royal Oak, meaning no points have been scored yet.

Royal Oak are one point behind CSC and North Heath are four points ahead but they are five points behind New Eltham at the top.

Victories are like buses now for Bellegrove A, as after waiting so long for a win they’ve now recorded two in a row.

This week they beat Eltham Terrace Rack Pack, 3-0 & 10-5 to join them on ten points in the table.

Chris Parlett was the saviour for Rack Pack, scoring three out of three for the first time this season.
