The Doctor to Jerry T after being handed an Interleague team shirt with “Doc” rather than “The Doctor” written on the back: “Do I look like one of the seven f**king dwarves?”

MATCH REPORTS...

LONDON A 24 V 20 SUSSEX A

Inter CountyDue to the sudden closure of Riley's Brighton we found ourselves unexpectedly playing at home again this month, which was no doubt to our advantage. This match actually panned out in very similar fashion to our first home match of the season against Kent.

London took an 8 v 3 lead, the highlight a length of the table treble on the black from Andy Breen, making a welcome return to the team after a year out. We built on that start, winning the 2nd set 6 v 5 for a 14 v 8 half time lead, and the 3rd set 7 v 4 to put us 21 v 12 up.

When Dave Rawlinson won the opening frame of the final set a big home win looked likely, but perhaps a little over eagerness cost us as Sussex took the next 8 frames before Jack Pople secured the win playing patient, steady match pool. Not quite the last gasp win we needed against Kent but still a little too close for comfort!

An important 24 v 20 win and our team is improving with every match and is starting to have a fairly settled look about it. We have everything to play for in the 2nd half of the season.

Man of the match goes to Tony Gear, winning 3 out of 4, including a couple of nice clearances.

Stats:

Dave Rawlinson 3/4
Jordan O'Connor 1/4
Alex Lawrence 3/4
Tony Gear 3/4
Rupert Ward 1/4
Joe Prince 1/4
Glen Tingley 0/2

London Seniors report home to Sussex

Inter County14.6.15 Sussex (home)

London Seniors 11 Sussex Seniors 9

An important match for London against table topping Sussex and London wasted little time in getting on top of our visitors. We raced away to a healthy 7-3 lead at the halfway point with Jerry, Glen and Pete undefeated at this point.

London looked to be in control and captain Allan Formosa shuffled the pack to bring in a couple of fresh reserves. Glen continued to play solid and Adam won an important frame as Sussex tried to mount a comeback.

The first two frames in the final set went to London to ensure the 3 points were ours and the match finished 11-9 in London’s favour, putting us level on points with Sussex after 5 matches played. Glen Tingley wouldn’t be beaten and recorded a perfect 4/4.

LONDON A 22 V 22 BERKSHIRE A

Inter CountyA hard earned draw against the current national champions.

The match began in unusual fashion with Joe Prince (London) and Neil Cummins (Berks) playing 4 frames apiece as both players had to make an early exit. With Joe winning 2/4 and Neil losing all 4 London had a 6 v 2 lead going into the match proper.

However when these frames were slotted in over the 4 sets there was actually never more than a couple of frames between the 2 teams at any one time.

Berkshire led 4 v 2, 6 v 4, 14 v 12 and 15 v 13, but were pegged back by London on each occasion.

We then won 4 frames in a row through Glen Tingley (that one from earlier), Jack Pople, Jordan O'Connor and Robbie Robb, to lead 17 v 15. Berkshire drew level at 17 v 17 (Dylan Leary) in the first frame of a nail biting final set.

London regained the lead, 18 v 17 (Alex Lawrence) only for Berkshire to level and then lead 19 v 18 (Luckvinder Birdy and Sefton Payne). London levelled and then led 20 v 19 (Rupert Ward and Joe, from earlier). Berkshire levelled (Daniel Baker), Jack put us back in front at 21 v 20. Berkshire levelled (Guiseppe D'Imperio) and then led 22 v 21 (Videsh Sabharwal). London levelled (Jerry Tickell). Match drawn.

22 v 22. A cracking match and probably a fair result with so little between the 2 teams throughout. All the sets were won or lost 6 v 5, Berkshire winning the first and fourth, London the second and third.

A close call for our man of the match as well with 3 players winning 3/4, Rupe getting the nod on this occasion.

A disappointing result for London against a team London beat twice last season.

We won the first set 3-2 and looked set to for a tight match. But disaster struck in the second and third sets with Berkshire white washing us in both to leave London trailing 12-3. A brief rally saw London edge out the final set 3-2 to make the result 6-14.

Only Paul Dawson came out with any credit with a 2/4 performance, and captain Allan Formosa cursing the teams luck as the score line didn’t reflect the nature of the defeat. We now need to bounce back to form quickly in our next match.

LONDON JUNIORS V BERKSHIRE JUNIORS

Inter CountyThe juniors played Berkshire juniors today at spots and stripes. Our managers car broke down and unfortunately couldn't make it. So the older lads in the team took the reigns. We set a target for ourselves of 33 frames and boy did the boys respond.

***SET ONE***

The boys raced out of the block winning 9 out of the 11 frames possible with some great displays of safety, potting and battling hard for frames. All of the time on the practice table seemed to be paying off.

SET SCORE - 9-2

***SET TWO***

We picked up from where we left off in the first set. Winning 10 out of the 11 frames. Kieran was unlucky in the frame we lost, with there player fluking a few snookers at vital moments. But another great set

SET SCORE - 10-1

***SET THREE***

The boys looked rejuvenated after the food break (munching on chilli & rice and jacket potato lol) and fired in another 10-1 set win and in doing so securing the match. I said to the other team members don't let the foot off the gas because frames could be crucial later on in the season. And they sure as hell didn't.

SET SCORE - 10-1

***SET FOUR***

We kept on the offensive in the last set. Hoping for a record scoreline but it wasn't to be only by 3 frames. Some more good solid match pool displayed especially by the younger members of the team!

SET SCORE - 9-2

HAMPSHIRE A 23 V 21 LONDON A

Inter CountyA disappointing away defeat against a Hampshire side who had only managed a draw in their opening 2 fixtures. London started brightly enough, taking the first set 7 v 4, with wins for Dave Rawlinson, Robbie Robb, Alex Lawrence, Nigel Smith, Glen Tingley, Jordan O'Connor and Rupert Ward.

Hampshire responded really well, playing some good stuff and making home advantage count, winning the second set 8 v 3 and the third set 6 v 5 to open up an 18 v 15 lead, but London did miss chances in these sets and also seemed a bit subdued.

Dave and Robbie won the first 2 frames of the final set to bring us within a frame of our opponents, only for Hampshire to win the next 3 frames to lead 21 v 17. London fought back really well, through Joe Prince, Nigel, Declan Kelly and Jordan, to put us level at 21 v 21 - and turn up the support level a few decibels - only to see us lose the last 2 frames to give Hampshire the win: Glen losing a tricky tactical frame after just failing to reach a cushion, and Jerry Tickell squandering a clear cut chance to secure a draw. Ouch!

We can take some positives out of this match however. Robbie did well returning to the team at short notice, Declan did very well winning 3 out of 4 on his seasonal debut for the A's, and most notably, man of the match Dave Rawlinson consolidating his spot as an opener with a really gritty 4 out of 4.

Hampshire C 13 -31 London C (12th April 2015)

Inter CountyHampshire C 13 -31 London C (12th April 2015)

Great match played in a wonderful atmosphere and club, produced a great result for London by a team that supported each other throughout. The support meant that we had plenty of energy left in set 3 to get the win and set 4 to increase that lead.

What made me feel proud was the support given to people when they lost, which meant that the event was a most enjoyable one; even better since we won :-).

Special mention to Peter Pan who despite playing well and winning 2/2, gave up 2 games so that Shane could play. Ross, Ryan and Kully all got 4/4 but Ryan also did a Break dish making him the man of the match.

Hampshire C (Home) v London C Match synopsis

Set 1: Hampshire C 2-9 London C
Set 2: Hampshire C 4-7 London C

We set off really well with spirits running high to end 16 -6 to London

London Seniors report, Away to Hampshire

Inter County12.4.15 Hampshire (away)
Hampshire Seniors 9 London Seniors 11
London made an impressive start against Hampshire white-washing the opponents to lead 5-0 after the first set including Jerry Tickell with a break and clear. London were motoring albeit with a couple of squad players light, and confidence was high. One or two frames slipped away but a 7-3 lead at the halfway mark was very healthy. It became 9-3 with Martin Storey who potted nicely all day winning his third frame, and man of match Glen Tingley fudging away to turn tight frames around. London thought it was virtually all over bar the shouting. Hampshire came roaring back, interspersed by an important win for Adam Hewson and the lead was cut to 10-8. When the opponent dry broke and the balls fell open Paul Gafa’ kept his nerve to dish and secure the 3 point win bonus, with frame 19 still in play. A sigh of relief all round. But a good team performance from all the players, to put London joint top of the division.

I/L Friendly London Leopards v SLKPA II

Inter LeagueFriday 11th April saw the London Leopards play their inaugural match at Rileys Woolwich against SLKPA II. While the purpose of this report is mainly to thank Scott and his team for the opportunity for us to play a friendly match ahead of the new season I ought to say a little bit about the evening itself.

We lost 20-7 (largely irrelevant in a friendly match) but both Ange (as Captain) and myself (as nobody really!) were really pleased to see the support and encouragement that everyone gave each other within the team. I was also impressed by the standard of some of the players I hadn't seen so much of in the past and with a little more confidence (which will come) they will be a force to be reckoned with. We were also missing two or three regulars so it all bodes well for the new season.

Frames won:
Nat & Sarah 2/3
Petrina, Linda and Millie 1/3

So thanks again to SLKPA II for what was a very enjoyable evening. If anyone else is interested in playing us in a pre season friendly then please let me know.

LONDON B 29-15 KENT

Inter CountyLONDON B 29- 15 KENT

So following on from our mixed performance against Surrey in our opening fixture we came up against a Kent side who had beaten us quite convincingly on both occasions last season.

SET 1 7-4

Going into this match as i hope we do every match we felt confident of turning the tide on our Kent counterparts after the 2 losses against them last season, and this was shown as we flew out of the blocks racing into 5-0 lead with wins from Chris Hobbis, George Hammond, Declan Kelly (joining from the A's), Andre Cox (joining from the A's) and Bruno Silva. Rob cork lost the next frame to give Kent hope of putting a run together only for Will Gayler to break dish the next frame, this was followed by 2 losses from Micky C and Pete Thomas but Tony Mcdowell then won another followed by kent winning the last frame of the first set.

SET 2 7-4

Ok so the second set kicked of in a similar fashion to the first set with Mr Hobbis winning the first followed by Kent nicking the next against an unlucky George Hammond followed by Declan, Andre and bruno all racking up wins to push us even further in front.
Kent pulled two frames back beating Rob Cork and Will Gayler before captain Micky C won his frame Pistol Pete Thomas lost but Tony Mcdowell and Dan Heinink then won to put us into a mid interval lead of 14-8.

SET 3 7-4

So the third set began with a six frame lead and us having blown a lead the previous match determined not to let this happen again.
The second set began and the ever reliable Chris Hobbis and George Hammond started with wins declan then lost followed by a win from Andre Cox.
Kent then managed to win the next two beating Bruno and Rob before the Vice captain Will Gayler and Captain Micky C stepped up to win.
Glen Hargreaves stepped into the fold having replaced Pete Thomas at the interval and was unlucky to lose his first ever frame for the B team having deserved his call up after an impressive performance for the C team last match. Tony Mcdowell and Dan Heinink then pushed us even further in front with two great wins.

SET 4 8-3

So going into the final set we only needed 2 frames to secure the win which led to a quick team talk pointing to the fact that we must first get across the line before we worry about frame difference.
Well what can i say we blew them away in the first 4 frames putting us into a 25-12 lead with wins from Chris Hobbis, George Hammond, Declan Kelly and Andre Cox.
Kent managed to win he next 3 frames beating Bruno, Rob and Will before we really hammered home the victory with wins from Micky C, Glen Hargreaves first win for the B's , Tony Mcdowell and Super Dan Heinink which gave us a fantastic 29-15 victory.

This was a great team performance from the lads having again showed some great ability on the table with the team spirit needed to build a team to be proud of.
So its now onto our next match away to Hampshire.
LETS GO AND SMASH THEM BOYS !!!!!

STATS:

Chris Hobbis 4/4
George Hammond 3/4
Declan Kelly 3/4
Andre Cox 4/4
Bruno Silva 2/4

Tony Mcdowell 4/4

LONDON A 23 V 21 KENT A

Inter CountyLondon put in a much improved performance against a decent Kent team who'd won their opening fixture. A really good first set saw us take an 8 v 3 lead. We shared the next 2 sets, 5 v 6 and 6 v 5 to keep our 5 frame lead intact and when Joe Prince put us 20 v 14 up at the start of the last set a comfortable home win looked likely. However Kent came back at us really strongly, rattling off 6 frames in a row to level at 20 v 20. Jack Pople and Jordan O'Connor then stepped up to win 2 massive frames for London. Willie Anderson kept Kent in the match after Glen Tingley missed a tricky black down the rail and Ben Savage looked set to break and clear for the draw only to snooker himself on the black. An in-off then gave Jerry Tickell the opportunity to pot the yellows with 2 shots before sinking the black for the win. Phew!

Man of the match was Jordan O'Connor with a really impressive 4 out of 4, but this was a good all round team performance with everyone contributing. Team spirit and support was excellent and we'll now be looking to improve again, next month away to Hampshire.
