A cue is like an extension to your arm for many players. Some people keep their's for years while others replace them every 6 months. How long have you owned your current cue?

  Team selection: Kent
by: PineapplePete, 10-03-2009 11:01 AM (#1)

Morning All,

As the Kent fixture nears, thoughts are turning to how we're going to select a team to play and conquer Kent.

We are still dependent upon the trickle down effect; so until the As and the Bs are more aware of their starting line up, we're a bit hamstrung as to how many places we'll have available. It would seem that no clue of the number of starting places available will be had until after the practice session on the Wednesday prior to the fixture, ie. 18th March.

As usual, the new system, if fully implemented could only allow for 3 C team players to get a game. That could happen if the As pass on 4 of theirs to the Bs, then forcing the Bs to pass on 8 of theirs to the Cs. Thus leaving 3.

Not pretty is it?!

So players, keep your engines running, keep practicing, keep the 22nd free, and as soon as we have some news, we'll publish it here first.

Can you all try to encourage other C team squad players to register on this site and contribute to the London County team chat etc.

Many thanks. See you on the 18th.

P.

From a C Team perspective, this is all we have to concentrate on:
Surrey 34
Kent 32
Berks 29
London 20

With 5 points for a win, and us being 12 pts behind, we need to beat Kent by a clear 8 frames.
This is very, very much within our potential and skill level.
8 simple, teeny-weeny frames of pool.
Just keep that number in mind every time you come to the table.
8.
8.
8.

Got our number?

Sorry for the delayed reply Pete.

It's worth bearing in mind that the figure of 8 players from the B team is the maximum. For every A or B team player that doesn't turn up we have one less.

This means that the C team is expected to have the spares to fill the gap.

I'd like to know what C team members think about substitutions.

Some people think that I should have a starting 11 and stick to it. The alternative is to drop anyone who loses the first 2 frames.

The advantage of using substitutions is that more people get a game. The disadvantage is that people can feel under pressure knowing that they will be substituted if they don't perform. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

I would really welcome a few opinions on this.

Surely a bit of discretion is needed on match days?

Some people could lose their first 2 frames but you might still back them to win their next 2, while others might lose confidence.

Some people will play better if they know there are reserves waiting to take their place while some will play worse.

You obviously need reserves, for muppets who miss the black twice and lose their first two frames for instance, but not too many.

You make your initial team selection to be the team you think is the best available for the day so it seems strange to change that too much half way through?

I think people need a clearer idea of team selection before the actual day of the match as well.

That’s also the responsibility of all the players to make sure that all captains can name a team and not a silly amount of reserves and be confident that everyone will turn up.

Judging by the first match that shouldn't be a problem!
